There is a portal
which, when crossed,
allows no retreat.
From then on, we
are released from
self-reflection
for it is only the voice
of Source which guides us on.
Yet we resist having the chains
of this life removed
for who truly has the courage
to be free — vulnerable
to the onslaughts of the unknown?
So we cling to our religion
social mores, laws, rules
dress in uniforms
live in look-alike neighborhoods
vote for cookie cutter leaders
and hope we are safe,
which we are not, of course.
Still, there is the portal
visible, open to all,
though few will step
across its threshold, choosing
instead fear over freedom.
